Piping Shrike 2003 Shiraz
(about 1 year ago) buddy icon tarheel17 80.0/100
Nose of dark fruit and...rubbing alcohol. ABV is 15.0% and this thing comes right at you, deer-in-headlights style. Maybe a whiff on menthol cgarettes at the tail end of the nose. Not altogether pleasant. Palate is really bitter, tannin-ful and alcoholic. Very disturbing. I'm going to give it some air to revisit later. After popping and pouring, it's down-right undrinkable. I'm giving it an 82 in the hopes that, within a few hours, it will chill out and become an 82 point wine. Right now it's a 79. edit: nope, it's a reconsituted alcoholic raisin on the second night. Final score: 80.
