Valdipiatta is located not far from a breathtaking old Etruscan town of Montepulciano, perched on the top of a 1640 foothill near Siena. While the farm was established in the early 1970s, it wasn’t until Guilio Caporali took it over in the early 1990s that things really began to happen. The vineyards were expanded to about 32 acres, using the finest clones available; new wine making and storage facilities were built. This is a young, fresh wine with a bouquet of berries and cherries. It can served with pasta, white meats and fish. 15% Canaiolo Rosso 80% Prugnolo Genile(Sangiovese) 5% Mammolo Soil: Clayey

Valdipiatta Rosso di Montepulciano 2003

Has this drink at Dino (Cleveland Park, Washington DC). Dean Gold (the owner) is friends with the winery owner and high recommend it as a affordable and excellent red wine, a good alternative to the much more expensive Brunello di Montalcino, for example. I have no idea what he's saying, but the winery stories sound good, Montepulciano rolls off the tongue quite nicely (doesn't that make you sound like you know what you're saying??), and the taste is very nice. This wine is much more complicated than most wine I've come across (like, ten), but it's not bitter or harsh on the tongue like most red wine. It was great with the good cheese and cured meat we ordered. Take my review with a grain of salt. I know my wine like Bush knows his press conference reporters.
