Les Deux Rhones 2005 Chateauneuf-du-Pape

COLOR: Light burgundy with a healthy dose of brown tossed in for good measure. SMELL: Chocolate covered cherries, sprinkled with dry coco powder. I get a little decaying forest... like a tree bark from a downed tree or maybe the dirt/leaves/compost from the bottom of the forest in the middle of fall. Just a little touch of carmel to top it all off....After decanting for a couple of hours. I just got a hint of green bell pepper. TASTE: FRUIT BOMB! Cherries, red skittles for days up front. There is 0 mid palette flavors, then at the end the Syrah kicks in with a bit of bell pepper, black pepper and a touch of spinach. Good, but I thought the Rhone region was supposed to be one of the "Mecca"s of the red varietal world and I wasn't that impressed. It could have been really good if there was some transitional flavors, but nothing in the mid-palette is really bothering me.
