For an extremely reasonably priced, straightforward Riesling, the St. Urbans-Hof 2005 is a clear-cut winner. The odor of this wine is very fruit-forward, but muddled: it's hard to pick out a specific character given the large burst of fruit it throws at you. The Urbans-Hof shines when it hits your tongue, though. The fruit tastes become less muddled and it is sure to please with its flavors of peach, pear, and even a hint of grapefruit. The alcohol is very subdued, as this wine is 10% alcohol by volume. I rate this wine "triumphant," but perhaps it should be "silly bizilly" given its magnificent taste at such an attractive price.

Everything I was told a Riesling should be... this is a staple. Every person I've ever had taste this wine quickly moves this near or to the top of their list of favorites. Quite possibly the most well-balanced wine I've ever tasted. Minerals, tropical fruit, and just enough acidity. If you see this wine, but it - you will not be disappointed.
