Bodegas Maurodos 2004 Prima Toro
(over 2 years ago)A really nice wine that will probably gain from another year in the bottle, as it's round but still on the woody and astringent side of things. It's delicious nonetheless, with aromas of blueberry and tastes of juicy blueberry, black cherry, flint and wood; and a layer of spice emerges when paired with rice and a restrained tomato sauce. I'm gonna buy another bottle and keep it around for a year or so...

(about 1 year ago)A very solid tempranillo effort. Dark colored, a medium red/purple, with surprisingly good clarity for an unfiltered wine. The aroma has the expected dark red fruits, but also some hints of roasting food and charred wood. The mouthfeel was big, with a nice sense of weight, especially compared to some entry level tempranillos. The acidity was moderate, with medium tannins rounding out the finish. The flavor was pleasant, and this is a highly recommended wine for a medium to full bodied Spaniard. Much better than Luzon Verde, Codice, or some other wines in this class. A good buy.

(11 months ago)Very enjoyable young wine. The nose has very ripe red fruit, wood and a little alcohol. Nice grip on the palate with cherry, wood and chocolate notes on the palate. The tannins are rustic and make for a very dry finish which was very enjoyable with food.
