Mitolo Jester 2005 Shiraz

I held off reviewing this wine until I let it sit overnight, because I couldn't quite get past the heavy initial tannins, but I could tell the wine had potential. The next evening, though, I am very impressed. This is a nice fruit-forward wine with a beautifully smooth blueberry flavor blended well with a nice acidic balance. Less spicy than a lot of shiraz, but well polished. I would recommend this wine.

I'll tell you right now, this is the first wine I'm reviewing on Corkd. Having said that, I would say I'm a beginner... but here goes. The Mitolo Jester Shiraz is a bit atypical compared to most types of Shiraz that I have tried. The initial taste is almost nonexistent and barely distinguishable. Only upon complete coverage of the tongue and completely drinking the wine does the taste present itself. It's quite subtle until it's half way down, at which point a dull but spicey blueberry flavor sets in. It's quite a surprising hit considering how easily it settles at first. I'd recommend this wine along with other labels of Shiraz. The caveat I would present is that it's flavors loom in the gulp.
