Smoking Loon 2005 California Syrah
(about 1 year ago)Definite smokey oak, cherry and a hint of cream. Dark purple tint, good legs and quite opaque. Initial burst of flavor that faded after about 30-40 minutes. Great value in my opinion. I've had better syrahs but not for the money.

(about 1 year ago)Can you say QPR. This is a wonderful wine for the the money! I have had several of the Donald and Sons Wines and this rendition of Syrah is fabulous for the money! Lots of Mocha and Caramel...a little too much at times but pleasantly silky on the mouth feel which was suprising for cheap Syrah. The finish can be longer but this is where the Chocolate and Oak stand out. Nice with or without food!

(about 1 year ago)Get your friends to taste this blind. They will probably come up with the word 'Chilean,' which is by no means a bad thing. There was a noticeable amount of heat for the first hour, which eventually subsided. Total oak. Indeed, lots of mocha, with raspberry, cedar, spice, and CINNAMON! Wheres the other comments about cinnamon? This is almost like a thanksgiving wine, in that it mirrors all those lovely scents of nutmeg, cinnamon, pumpkin pie, ect. A great buy at ten bucks.
