The Black Chook is sourced from McLaren Vale, known for it’s consistent, Mediterranean-type climate and Langhorne Creek which characteristically produces Shiraz that is spicy, fl avorful and elegant. Co-fermenting small amounts of Viognier skins with Shiraz adds a wonderful apricot perfume, at the same time as intensifying the deep rich colour and velvety mouthfeel of the wine.

(about 1 year ago)The odor was meaty. I expected to be soon biting into a medium-rare steak. The taste continued to surprise me; I swear that in the Shiraz / Voignier mixture, there was a few percent olive oil.

(about 1 year ago)Great 'French style' new-world wine. "old world fans leave the room!" I've found that it appeals to a wide crowd. Black Currants with a hint of chalky-chocolate on the bouquet; a little more fruit foreword on the palate. For an 06' it doesn't seem overly young, but could stand another year in the cellar. I drank it while watching Seinfeld but would go equally well with a hearty dinner.

(about 1 year ago)Really nice bouquet; deep red color. Fruit flavors give way to expressive tannins and lingering finish

(about 1 year ago)Nice color, decent midpalate and a really nice finish. Had this not been wine number gazillion on the night you might get more out of me. Nice stuff for the price.
