Rotllan Torra Reserva 2001 Priorat
(about 1 year ago)a deep purple in color. the nose : holy cocoa puffs batman!!! also some cedar and am experiencing the insides of a blueberry poptart (jam?). on drinking it i just can't get away from feeling like i'm eating a box of those cocoa puffs without milk. very unique. sour cherry for sure up front, followed by some darker, jammier fruits. a great $15 dollar value if you have yet to have a Priorat and want a unique flavor profile.

(about 1 year ago)tasted 6.06 friends and i ordered this at a restaurant in NYC ($40.00 on the menu, $17 at the wine store) and it proved to be a real nice wine. the nose showed some dark cherries and pitted fruit, a little earth and even some tar. the palate followed with notes of sour cherry and garrigue. it is a great value. i recently found a bottle of their 1998 gran reserva for about $26. that is currently in my cave. the 2001 has time to age. it is just turning into a teenager. at the moment, it is not really complex, but it is a good intro to priorat. thumbs up

(about 1 year ago)What a value! The nose is very new world, with a big punch in the face of chocolate. On the palate, the cocoa flavors are still coming through, though it drinks fairly dry- baking chocolate and blue fruits are all over this baby. Rotllan Torra rarely fail to impress, and this is no exception.

(about 1 year ago)Very dark red, nose: at first distinctly red fruit roll-up, hickory, chocolate, little bit of old sofa. Taste: rolls off palate, doesn't stick until end, long evolution on tongue. apple and citrus.

(about 1 year ago)full bodied. nose with hints of twizzlers and milk. very interesting. rich flavor with strong sour cherries and hints of vanilla. very acidic on the finish. interesting nose- i would get this bottle again just to smell it!!!! yummy.

(about 1 year ago)This is a total explosion without being a new-world fruit bomb. I'm not a fan of chocolate and there was dark chocolate ALL OVER this wine... and I enjoyed it! The chocolate and licorice aspects, very intense on the nose also translated to the palate where I also found dark flowerpot, chocolate raspberry, and a tinge of motor-oil notes. Also excellent tannins. Highly recommended! + or - evals... Distinct varietal character: +, Integration: +, Expressiveness: +, Complexity: +, Connectedness: +

(about 1 year ago)Nose: This wine had an amazing nose that was quite unique. Detected dark fruits with the interesting twist of peanuts, maybe even peanut butter. I would enjoy smelling this wine for a while. Taste: Somewhat different from smell, more oak/tannins and again veggies but nice fruit finish that complimented overall taste well. Was a little let down on taste though after the amazing smell. Still a good wine!

(about 1 year ago)I like this. As others have noted, the milk chocolate on the nose is inescapable. In my case, it smelled as if you had taken Hawaiian simoi (dried seeds and fruit, often with sweet, salt, and sour intensity) and covered them in nestle quick. There are also strawberries and raspberries to boot. Quite fun. The palate: milk chocolate...lots of milk chocolate plus fruit (sour cherry for sure, and other red fruits). Unfortunately, the finish is a bit bitter, though the chocolate does last as long as the bitterness. Unfortunately, it's bitter milk chocolate, not dark chocolate, which I'd love. Still, very cool experience. Definitely worth $15.

(about 1 year ago)Fabulous aromas of dark chocolate, strawberries, cherries and just a little oak. Huge explosion of cherry on the palette and then the dark chocolate on the mid-palette. Good long finish that adds some leather, tobacco and green apple. This wine is really quite good and well worth seeking out.

(about 1 year ago)This wine made my day, or maybe my whole week. If anything, this wine is 'different', and gives you the sensation of drinking a fine wine. Its bouquet is a delicious perfume, where lilac is predominant among other sensations. It's robust, mature, displays firm and wonderful tannins, and a well balanced and harmonious blend among the three varietals. The 25% Cabernet Sauvignon balanced deliciously against the 50% Grenache and the rest. It's acidity is evident and just right. We had a turkey dinner with it. I did not decant it, however, decanting may be in order due to its unfilter condition and residual sediment in bottle. Great and very pleasing juice.

(10 months ago)Lots of cocoa on the nose as well as cold wine cellar. Reminds me of a chilled peanut butter cup. Palate on this wine is decent, light, refreshing, perhaps boring. Light dry cocoa dusted raspberries with more of the same on the fairly bitter finish. Not bad.
