I had the pleasant fortune to taste the 1991 version of this wine as one of my first wine experiences after moving to California in August of 1993. I bought a bottle, took it home and enjoyed it with a good meal. A few months later, on my next, of what was to become many, trip to Napa I bought a case (at $25/bottle...I was 23 at the time, so it seemed like a fortune). I drank most of the bottles over the next few years until I had only a few left. Stopped by the winery in 1997 to learn that the vintner was buying 750mL bottles them back for over $60/bottle so he could split them into 375mL bottles. I didn't part with them. But finally finished the last in 2004 and it was fabulous! This wine was fabulous when I first had it, and excellent a decade later. Fruity, warm, rich, oaky, a truly excellent wine experience, especially for a Cab. As an aside, the vintner described himself as having recently moved to the US and bought a farm. Starting growing and buying grapes and, as luck would have it, this batch of Cab. grapes didn't get harvested until after a frost, so the water content was low, sugar was high. He lucked out on a real winner! I hope this one is as good.
