My wife and i "treat" ourselves to a bottle of Chalk Hill Chard each year for thanksgiving. Normally we're rewarded with a rich buttery chard that fills the mouth with pear, butterscotch, green apple, a hint of mineral, all swimming together in rich cream. Well, maybe 2002 was a bad year for old Fred & Peggy... suffice to say it disappointed. While it still had the hallmark fruit (with that hint of mineral), the malolactic richness was all but absent. Maybe 2003...

Hands down the best chardonnay I've ever had. A lot of chards can be really overpowering, but this one is incredibly smooth - the flavors are very subtle.

This is my favorite chardonnay. It has an elegance and complexity that I prefer to the big buttery style of many CA chards.
