Our 2002 Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a rich, profound wine that beautifully balances concentration with finesse. It has a dark, ruby color and aromas of blackberry jam, soy sauce, violets and dark chocolate, with hints of cedar and cinnamon. The first impression in the mouth is one of smoothness and roundness. The wine offers a seamless, harmonious progression of fruit, chocolate and black tea tones, leading to an extremely long finish with supple tannins and echoes of berry fruit. Properly cellared, it should provide drinking pleasure until 2027. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon

Silver Oak 2002 Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
(over 2 years ago)Certainly in the Silver Oak style, with toasty new American Oak imparting dill, pine, and sage notes. Some people don't seem to like this wine, but I prefer it to the softer, more mainstream Napa offering. Certainly not for the faint of heart, and its medium body won't appeal to fans of overripe Cabernet, but certainly a unique expression of the grape.

(over 2 years ago)The first impression in the mouth is very earthy and oakey, then comes the cinnamon and mild cardamom flavor. A very pleasant wine.
Silver Oak 2002 Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
(about 1 year ago)The heralded Alexander Valley Silver Oak is a wine with a heavy handed rep - so there's some impressing to do. Alas, such things will not come to pass. The nose is a real strong lead: a ring of strawberry and raspberry heavyweight boxers refereed by a ripe plum dripped in rubbing alcohol. It even seems like things are going well, that is until the ref calls the fight on account of an extremely sour cherry reporter jumping into the ring and knocking out both combatants with a folding chair - while oak, asparagus, and red onion look on at the finish. Although this isn't the most terrible wine, for it's price point it's worth almost no entertainment. Unless you have a ridiculous amount of cash to blow on over-hyped Cab's (already a hatred of mine), keep on walkin' stranger.
