1999 Chardonnay VINTAGE The 99 vintage was warm but rain in the latter part of March slowed ripening. We were fortunate to have a spell of sunny weather from the 28th of March until the 30th when we picked the Chardonnay. The ripe flavour was excellent and achieved at slightly lower sugar levels than the previous 2 years. Sugar at harvest was 12.1°Be compared to 12.6°Be in 1998 and 13.4°Be in 1997. Natural acids were a little higher than those in 97 and 98. TASTING NOTES Aroma: Fresh, complex, melon fruit with subtle cream, spice and nut overtones. Hints of oak Palate: A wine of freshness and delicacy. Dry, crisp and long flavour. TECHNICAL DETAILS Region: Lenswood, Adelaide Hills Variety: 100% Chardonnay Oak Maturation: 12 months in French oak barriques. All from forests in the centre of France and Vosges. Half new oak and half second use. pH: 3.30 | Alcohol: 13.0% | TA: 7.5% Serving Suggestion: Best drunk cool between 5 and 12°C
