1961 Cheval Blanc
(over 2 years ago)Had both the 1947 and 1961, 2 bottles of 61, both were from 750ml. Consistent in both. Great color, rich garnet with a slight tawny on the edges. In the nose earth came through right up front. As it sat the soil moved away and fruit and cedar began to fill the air. In the mouth dried cherries, dutch process cocoa, toffee, and cinammon were perfectly balanced. This is a fantastic wine that still has enough tannin to drink for another 10-15 years. If it weren't for the other wines on the night (1947&1961 Latour a Pomerol) I think I would have a new favorite all time wine. One of my all time favorite wines. This wine is the stuff of legend and should be had by anyone who has a chance of luck to have it.
