2000 Flowers Camp Meeting Ridge Pinot Noir
(over 2 years ago)Well, quite frankly it has exceeded every expectation I have had, and cast serious doubt about what I believe I know about wine in general. The Flowers CMR is one of the finest expressions of Pinot Noir I have ever tasted. Dynamic is a word that falls excruciatingly short somehow. Terroir needs to be better defined. Complexity is a flaccid and anemic description. I can only hope to give you a snapshot: It is 4:30pm in July in the midwest and the sun has finally decided to give you a break. The day audibly heaves a sigh of relief and with it comes the breath of every plant, shrub, herb, animal, rock, and mineral for miles and miles. You can taste this collection of nature's exhaust without trying. Your body receives these flavors, aromas and textures as a desert wanderer takes on water...wholly. It is bing cherry, it is roasted meats somewhere in the house, it is bakery goodness, then a flash of the orient, an old basement, the memory of Chirstmas' past, fudge, a s'more, shizo, caramel, a funnel cake. I wake up in a pool of sweat and I am hungry, dazed and a bit nervous. It was only a glass of wine, wasn't it?
