Wow! Tasted Sept 2006. Wine in fine shape. Garnet color. No significant sediment. Exuberant black cherry and floral (geranium?) nose that persisted 5 hours after opening/decanting. The nose is more powerful than the flavors in the glass. Aged cabernet flavors of tobacco and cedar. Tannins are fine, probably low to begin with, and the acidity is balanced to the flavors. Very drinkable. Picked this up as a $15 close-out.

I just tried the 1999 Santa Rita, Casa Real for the first time. I am impressed. I have typically not been a fan of Chilean wines. I typically find the cabernet to be a bit harsh, ackward and one dimensional. It may be that I have tried only a limited number of these. This is an estate bottled wine from a well respected producer. As for the 1999 Santa Rita, Casa Real the nose offer nice dark fruit, grill meat, tobacco and vanilla. The finish still offers enough backbone to age for a several more years. The tannins are still present but are not unpleasant. If you can still find this wine give it a shot. I think you will enjoy it. Cheers
