This is my 16th year in the antiques business, specializing in photography. I'm a relatively new comer to wine, maybe the last 8 years, but only drinking maybe 10 bottles of wine a year, and a glass of wine in a restaurant a dozen times a year. I originally started out drinking reds, because at the time I was into steak with red wine mushroom sauces at restaurants. I wanted to cook dishes like what I was eating when dining out. I started out with Merlot, then fairly quickly switched to Pinot Noir, then on to Shiraz/Syrah. A couple years ago I asked the local shop (Campus Wines) for a wine to bring to a Thanksgiving dinner with some friends. The highlight of the meal was going to be Lobster Pie. They suggested several things but I decided to try an Gewurztraminer. I had never heard of the varietal before. It turned out to be fantastic. I didn't know wines could be spicy and peppery. It was a hit with the friends and me. So I am currently experimenting with Gewurz right now.
